Almere is located approximately 33km to the east of Amsterdam.

The Holland.com website describes Almere as a city that "prides itself on stunning scenic beauty and many beaches. The various walking and cycling paths take you to the most beautiful spots in and around Almere. Lovers of water sports are spoiled for choice. You can go diving, angling, sailing and wake-boarding at the Cable Center.  Almere was built in the 1970s. Not until 1976 did the first inhabitants move into the newly built homes. A city which does not boast any historical buildings or monuments has to offer visitors and citizens something else, Almere has realized various architectural tours de force."
