Describe Your Role with USA Triathlon: Member of the Board of Directors representing the Southeast Region.  Speaker at the Southeast Region Triathlon Expo on “Keeping the Flame Lit for Life.”
What drove you to the multisport lifestyle? I was a runner that needed to do more cross training to take the stress off my legs.  I added swimming and cycling and met a great group of triathletes who live exciting lives with meaning and purpose.  It has become a great way for me to develop great friendships, stay fit and be healthy.
Personal: Married to Nannette for 38 years. They have three boys who are grown and out of the house.  Mike is also a member of the board of directors of the Atlanta Track Club and three other not for profit organizations.  In addition to .running and competing in triathlons, Mike is an avid snow skier, cross country skier, and mountain hiker.  He is the oldest member of the Timex Multisport Team and a member of the PowerBar Elite team.
Athletic Accomplishments: 35 Marathons including 9 Boston Marathon. Eight Ironman Triathlons including 4 world championship Ironman races in Kona Hawaii.  Best Kona finish was second in age group in 2011.  Member of Team USA in L’Orient, France in 2007 and Rimini, Italy in 2008.  I just qualified for Team USA in Edmonton, Canada in 2014.
Athletic Background: I was not much of an athlete growing up.  I was the kid who played right field.  Do you have any idea what a thrill it is for a kid who played right field to be competing on the World stage in an Ironman? I believe any athletic success I have had is not due to some innate talent but is a result of concentration, discipline and endurance.  I am able to persevere over others.
