Our USAT Coaching Business Innovation Retreat is slated for the winter of 2015 and will strengthen coaches’ entrepreneurial tool kit and program development practices to give them staying power in a growing sports industry. This two day event (held December 10 & 11, 2015 in Colorado Springs, CO) will serve as a strategic business function. A sample schedule can be found here.
2015 Presenters Will Be:
Coach Ken has been coaching endurance athletes since 2000 and is the owner of PEAK Multisport LLC in Colorado Springs, CO. His business is unique including a U25 elite squad, High Performance Youth and Junior Team, age group athletes and a local training studio. Ken made the leap from a career as a corporate sales manager to coaching full time in 2007 and never looked back. His educational based approach and open networking proves helpful for both is athletes as well as his fellow coaches running their own businesses. He is also a regular contributor to national publications and a frequent presenter at all levels of USA Triathlon coaching programs.

Mike Ricci, USAT Coach of the Year, and a Level III USAT Certified Coach is the owner and founder of the D3 Multisport coaching group. He is no stranger to business ownership and the exciting ride that brings. Having navigated the triathlon industry on the business side for over 15 years, he has learned what it takes to bring a business concept to the industry, maintain the course through difficulties, and to savor the success which is often hard earned. Mike is passionate about helping his athletes achieve their goals, helping the D3 coaches develop their own strengths and to initiate new business ideas and partnerships through D3 Multisport. Mike has a BS in Finance and an MBA in Accounting. He is a US Marine Corps veteran.
Melissa Mantak, MA is USAT Level III and USAC Level 1 Certified. She is a former ITU World Cup Champion, USOC Triathlete of the Year, USAT National Coach of the Year and USAT National Development Coach-CRP. She is the owner of The Empowered Athlete, LLC and has been a full time triathlon coach since 2000. As an entrepreneur, she works daily to grow the business side of triathlon coaching. She runs a mentorship program for new triathlon coaches and wrote a chapter in USAT’s: The Women’s Guide to Triathlon. Melissa teaches at multiple Level II and III USAT Coaching Certification Clinics and the Coach Mentor Program at the OTC. Melissa is passionate about helping athletes and coaches reach their dreams and goals.

Space is limited to 20 USAT-currently certified coaches per retreat. In order to be considered for the Coaching Business Innovation Retreat, coaches must complete an online application and attach a coaching resume. The fee to participate in this program is $550; those accepted into the program will be provided a registration link to complete registration. Should applicants not choose to register within one week of being accepted, their slots will be offered to registrants on the wait list.
No certification will be involved in this programming; however, participants will receive a certificate of completion and 10 USAT Approved CEU’s. They will also be invited to participate in an online private discussion forum after the retreat which will offer additional support/resource-sharing among attendees.
Registration fee does not include hotel/airfare fees. Snacks, beverages, lunches, and resource materials will be provided.
