Team USA was created by USA Triathlon to be a team of age group/amateurs who will best represent the United States and compete in the International Triathlon Union’s (ITU) world championships, which attracts the best athletes representing over 50 countries each year.

All athletes eligible to represent the United States must:
     - Be a U.S. citizen OR
     - Be a U.S. national: someone who has resided in the US for three
consecutive years and has not competed for their country of citizenship
     in the prior year.

Team USA eligible athletes must not have competed for their country of citizenship in the prior year. Athletes who choose to be recognized as nationals who have competed for their country of citizenship in the last year may get dispensation by obtaining a letter from the National Federation of their home country allowing competition as a USA athlete.

Prospective Athletes for 2015 Team USA:

USA Triathlon has instituted a new Team USA registration process that will take place Aug. 9-10 at the 2014 USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships in Milwaukee. As part of this process, athletes who qualify for Team USA by placing among the top 25 based on the age-up results in the Olympic-Distance (Standard) or Sprint races will be given the following two opportunities to confirm their interest in competing at the 2015 ITU Age Group World Championships in downtown Chicago. (As the host federation next year, the U.S. receives an extra seven slots per age group.)

1. Prior to the Awards Ceremony – Athletes who finish in spots 11-25 (i.e., outside the top-10) of their age group in the Olympic-Distance race, and in spots 6-25 (i.e., outside of the top-5) in the Sprint race can confirm their interest in Team USA prior to the start of their respective awards ceremonies on Saturday and Sunday. See the schedule below.

2. During the Awards Ceremony – Immediately after each age group’s podium finishers (top 10 for Olympic-Distance and top five for Sprint) are called to the awards stage, the top 25 athletes in each respective age group will be prompted to go to the Team USA processing area located just outside the Awards Ceremony room on Saturday night and at the back of the Summerfest Arena on Sunday. Each athlete will be asked to make the required $50 deposit via credit card, cash or check to confirm their spot on Team USA.

Only those placing in the top 25 of each age group – based on their age as of Dec. 31, 2015 (referred to as the “age-up results”) – will be able to sign-up at this time. USA Triathlon will implement a registration process for any unfilled Team USA slots that become available for finisher positions beyond 25th place in each age group. This process will be communicated in the coming weeks and, in the meantime, please ensure we have your current information in our system for notification purposes if you are one of these athletes.
