USA Triathlon Race Director Certification and Officials Certification Coming to Lavaman Waikoloa!

USA Triathlon will be presenting both a Race Director Certification class and an Officials Certification Clinic in the three days leading up to Lavaman Waikoloa. The RD Certification class will be held Thursday and Friday, March 25-26, 2010 and the Officials Clinic Saturday, March 27, 2010.

What is Race Director Certification?
Race director certification is a 16-hour education course that generally takes place over two days. The culmination is the awarding of certificates to race directors who successfully complete the course requirements. This course addresses the latest in race directing methods, insurance/risk management trends, and USAT sanctioning compliance. Much time is spent on specific risk management procedures, producing an event that will give athletes the best experience possible and networking with other event directors. Race Director Certification is taught entirely by USAT Staff and our professional risk management team. This course is designed for both new and seasoned event directors and can even be beneficial to key race support staff.

The cost to register for RD Certification is $375 and includes all course materials, snacks and beverages throughout the two days and all the online processing fees. This class is limited to 20 attendees.

Registration is now open. The online registration site for Waikoloa can be found HERE

The Hilton Waikoloa Village will serve as the meeting venue and host hotel. Attendees can take advantage of the group rate (subject to availability) through the Lavaman Triathlon by going to the Lavaman website - www.lavamantriathlon.com - and following the instructions for booking the rooms at the hotel under the "lavaman rate".  Reservations must be booked on-line through the link provided on the race website.

Questions about Race Director Certification can be directed to Liz Tucker - liz@usatriathlon.org.

What is an Officials Certification Clinic?

USAT's Officials Certification Clinic consists of about three hours of classroom lecture and discussion. Each clinic has a limited number of spaces and applicants are urged to contact the clinic instructor to reserve a space early. Classroom portions of the clinics are taught on the day or evening prior to the triathlon. On race day, the clinic participant will be assigned to marshal some portion of the race, under the supervision of the clinic instructor. USA Triathlon officials' uniforms are issued to each new official on race day.

There is no charge for attending a clinic. One must be a member of USA Triathlon and bring the membership card or join at the clinic. Clinics are held in conjunction with a sanctioned event, and will have USA Triathlon officials assigned to marshal the race.
