Duathlon Race Series

About the Duathlon Race Series

The Duathlon Race Series was created in 2013 with the aim of introducing more athletes to the exciting multisport discipline of duathlon.

With one event in each of USA Triathlon’s 10 Regions, two National Championships and Powerman long course duathlon races, athletes across the country will have the opportunity to compete in a top-flight run-bike-run event. Each event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon and will count toward the popular end-of-year Duathlon National Rankings for USA Triathlon annual members.

If a series event has more than one distance, the distances listed in the series schedule will count toward the overall Duathlon Race Series Rankings. Personalized awards will be presented to top age-group finishers in the overall series upon completion of the 2015 Duathlon Race Series.

The 2015 Duathlon Races Series is pleased to announce the offering of long course duathlon races through the Powerman events. To encourage duathletes of all focuses, sprint, standard and long, the 2015 Series offers races of all distances.

The 2015 Series kicks off with southwest races in Arizona: Powerman Arizona and the Desert Classic Du in February.  The Series will continue through December, with the final event being the Powerman North America National Championship in Cocoa Beach, Florida. USA Triathlon’s Duathlon National Championships will return to St. Paul, Minnesota, on June 6 to highlight the competitive sprint and standard duathlon athletes.

USA Triathlon sanctioned nearly 600 duathlon races in 2012, more than doubling the number of sanctioned races from 2006. Click here for more on the multisport discipline of duathlon.

When the 2013 Duathlon Race Series unveiled itself in January, it included results for standard-distance events only — 10 regionally based duathlons and the USA Triathlon Duathlon National Championships. Athletes competing in more than one Series event at the standard distance received a 2013 Duathlon Race Series Ranking.

It is not surprising then that in the inaugural year for the Duathlon Race Series, USA Triathlon and the Duathlon Committee saw a trend occurring that required a change in philosophy. Because so many of the events included a sprint-distance race (six in total), the Committee supported adding this distance to the Series Rankings formula. So, the change — that both standard and sprint Series events are included in the rankings — will be in effect for each season.

For final 2015 Duathlon Race Series Rankings, an athlete must have competed in two or more Series races to receive a score. Both standard and sprint-distance races are included in the Rankings, regardless of race distance. Rankings are determined by averaging the top two scores for the Series.

Once the Duathlon Race Series has finished for the year, the rankings will be calculated and posted here on the website. Awards will be presented to the top three athletes per age group based upon the rankings. The Duathlon Race Series winners will be announced on the Duathlon Race Series page.
