In 2013, USA Triathlon launched the Super Sprint Series to introduce a new format of triathlon to the United States, providing an incredibly fast, spectator-friendly event featuring the world’s best elite triathletes. The venues put fans in the center of the action, with athletes completing two continuous, non-stop circuits of the same course.
These events are open to all USA Triathlon-registered elite athletes, as well as international pros. A minimum of 50 percent of the field is reserved for U.S. athletes, providing an opportunity for the nation’s emerging and Olympic-level triathletes to enhance draft-legal cycling skills and race tactics.
The 2014 USA Triathlon Super Sprint Series opener was held in Richmond, Va., on May 25. The series continues Aug. 9 in Milwaukee, Wis., and concludes Sept. 11 in Las Vegas.
