What is the Retro Tri Series?
Believe it or not, before the days of bike racks, triathlons and multisport events were still as prominent as ever. The Retro Tri Series is taking a step back to those days by offering a unique series that highlights the retro allure that once was. Retro attire is encouraged to enhance the experience and atmosphere!
In specific, the USA Triathlon Retro Tri Series is a youth and adult multisport event that combines swimming, biking, and running. All events within the series are not required to be timed, but timing is acceptable. The focus is on participation rather than competition.
To participate in the USA Triathlon Retro Tri Series, athletes must be at least 13 years of age and include adult and youth. One event will take place in each of the ten USA Triathlon regions across the United States. The Retro Tri Series will serve to expose and continue to educate all participants on a healthy and active multisport lifestyle. It is open to first-timers, seasoned veterans, and those looking to stay active, all while in an event atmosphere.
Why participate?
- Continues to expose and educate all athletes to the multisport lifestyle, all while being involved in a fun, exciting, and safe atmosphere!
- Engages all athletes in pre-race and post-race activities such as vendors areas, clinics, and additional educational opportunities.
- Creates an opportunity to meet friends and other athletes who engage or want to become engaged in the multisport lifestyle!
- Perfect for first-timers, seasoned veterans, and those looking to stay active.

What is USAT Sanctioning?
The term “sanction” refers to the compliance of a multisport event to USA Triathlon’s safety requirements. Safety plans, course maps, and event details must be submitted for review by experienced USA Triathlon staff. This ensures events are safe and fair competition environments.
USA Triathlon sanctions more than 4,000 events across the country. USA Triathlon not only sanctions triathlons, but also paratriathlons, duathlons, aquathlons, aquabikes, off-road events, winter triathlons, youth races, camps and clinics.
