Melissa Stockwell

Melissa Stockwell is a certified prosthetist, an amputee athlete and USAT Level 1 coach. She lost her left leg above the knee while serving in Iraq in April of 2004. She went on to compete in the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing as a swimmer and became the Paratriathlon World Champion in 2010 in the TRI2 category. Melissa helped to co-found the dare2tri Paratriathlon club in January 2011 and has 60+ athletes with a disability interested in getting involved in the sport of paratriathlon. She also organizes and helps run the Blade Runner amputee running group in the Chicago area. Melissa recently co- presented at the Paralympic Development Conference in Colorado Springs on how to train, register and compete athletes with a disability. As an amputee herself, Melissa has a unique perspective on how to help these athletes which will be incorporated into this presentation.
