This webinar will cover all aspects of starting a Paratriathlon club in your home city. It will focus on how to recruit athletes, find training sites, pick appropriate races, how to get club sponsorship, and more. We will also discuss the importance of partnering with other local athletic clubs and how to make your club a success.
Melissa Stockwell is a certified prosthetist, an amputee athlete and USAT Level 1 coach. She lost her left leg above the knee while serving in Iraq in April of 2004. She went on to compete in the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing as a swimmer and became the Paratriathlon World Champion in 2010 in the TRI2 category. Melissa helped to co-found the dare2tri Paratriathlon club in January 2011 and has 60+ athletes with a disability interested in getting involved in the sport of paratriathlon. She also organizes and helps run the Blade Runner amputee running group in the Chicago area. Melissa recently co- presented at the Paralympic Development Conference in Colorado Springs on how to train, register and compete athletes with a disability. As an amputee herself, Melissa has a unique perspective on how to help these athletes which will be incorporated into this presentation.Sanctioning Status: USAT SANCTIONED
