Tornado Relief Book Drive
The people of Tuscaloosa lost everything after the devastating tornado that ripped through their city on April 27, 2011. This has been a major setback for their community and they are working every day to rebuild. People outside their community do not always understand the recoil effects of a natural disaster like this. Tuscaloosa had two schools that were severely damaged and two that were completely destroyed. Many of the books that these students would use on a daily basis were ruined. This year USAT would like to ask athletes to work together to help fill Tuscaloosa's school libraries. Interestingly enough, some of these schools have reading triathlons! These are reading challenges where students are challenged to read three different types of books in a certain time frame. The local librarians have provided a list of the needs for a successful reading program. If you are not able to provide books there are alternative options. CLICK HERE for a list of items the school library needs. These librarians are very appreciative of the support and hope to see the Tuscaloosa school libraries full again when they open back up. Please bring any books, gift cards, or donations to packet pick when you check in on Friday between 9 a.m.-3 p.m. There will bins placed at packet pick up for books and donations.
Free Pasta Party
USA Triathlon will be hosting a free pasta party for competing athletes and one coach per team. Additional coaches may purchase a ticket at the door for $10. There is only seating for 400 athletes at a time so all athletes must attend at their designated time. If you come at a time that is not your designated time you are not guaranteed seating. Open wave athletes are welcome to attend with their team or come to the 5:45 or 7:15 session. Times and placement are still subject to change. CLICK HERE for a list of registered teams and dining times. Times and dates have been updated. The pasta party will be held at the Ferguson Center on the campus of University of Alabama.
