As business partners Mark Sortino and John Murray developed their recently-created triathlon company, race production of both youth and adult events became one of there more successful ventures. Their Portofino Sunset Tri Series has now grown to a nine series race that is a popular weekday evening triathlon. John will discuss how the series started and has grown along with tips for starting your own evening series. Topics include: course creation that makes sense for both athletes and municipalities; equipment decision & purchases that allowed them to grow the series; establishing both community and sponsorship support; inventive volunteer incentives, and clever race options.
John Murray is a USAT Level 2 certified Coach as well as a USAT Level certified Race Director. John is co-founder and president of Team MPI(Multisport Performance Institute), a triathlon company providing a diverse spectrum of services designed for beginner to elite level triathletes through individual coaching, camps, clinics and event production. Recently John was named as one of the Head Coaches for Team USA's paratriathlon team that competed in the ITU World Championships in London. TeamMPI's events have included the youth events, Sea Turtle Tri, Maritime DeLuna Du and Jubilee Kids triathlon as well as their successful evening series, The Portofino Sunset Tri series.
