COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — USA Triathlon and Rudy Project have announced a plan to ensure that all international athletes competing at the ITU Duathlon World Championship in Concord, N.C., will have CPSC-certified helmets.
Rudy Project is making helmets available to athletes whose own helmets do not adhere to the federally mandated CPSC standard for helmets in the United States.
“USAT has one of the most respected risk management programs within the Olympic family,” said USAT CEO Skip Gilbert. “While we respect the helmet brands worn by foreign athletes, the requirements of our risk management program demand that we only allow CPSC-approved helmets at our sanctioned events.”
Athletes who do not have CPSC-certified helmets will not be allowed to race in the championship.
Following the race, USA Triathlon will donate the borrowed helmets to local community programs.
