Verzbicas Makes History, Wins CC National Title

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Sandburg High School sophomore Lukas Verzbicas of Orland Park, Ill., dominated the 2009 Foot Locker Cross Country Championships on Saturday, winning the title in a time of 15:07.  
 
Verzbicas, who finished 15 seconds ahead of the rest of the field, is the first sophomore boy to ever win this prestigious race.
 
This title joins other top honors Verzbicas has earned this year. He claimed the junior world title at the ITU Duathlon World Championships, which consisted of a 5k run followed by a 20k bike and then a 2.5k run, in September. He also finished second at USA Triathlon's 2009 Junior Elite National Championship, held in Colorado Springs, Colo., on August 8.
