Jarrod Shoemaker moved to sixth in the WCS series rankings Sunday.

LONDON, England – Olympian and USA Triathlon National Team member Jarrod Shoemaker grabbed his second straight seventh-place finish and crossed the finish line in the top 10 for the fourth consecutive Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series event Sunday at London’s Hyde Park.

Shoemaker (Maynard, Mass.) covered the Olympic-distance event in 1 hour, 42 minutes, 57 seconds – just 49 seconds off the pace of winner Javier Gomez of Spain, who was victorious in 1:42:08. Always strong on the run, Shoemaker locked up yet another top-10 finish with a 30:09 10k run split.

Shoemaker has been a model of consistency this season with respective finishes of eighth, ninth, seventh and seventh in his last four WCS events. With Sunday’s showing, he moved to sixth in the WCS series rankings and is now the top-ranked American – male or female – on this season’s circuit. With a ninth-place finish at the Hy-Vee ITU Elite Cup in June, Shoemaker has finished in the top 10 of his last five races.

Matt Chrabot (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished 51st in 1:46:48 and ranks 19th in the series rankings, while Chris Foster (Redondo Beach, Calif.) grabbed 53rd in 1:47:33. Ben Collins (Seattle, Wash.) led the race 500 meters into the swim but was one of three Americans that did not finish.

The event was held on the course that will host the 2012 London Olympic triathlon.

The seven-race WCS is a key proving ground for the top American triathletes hoping for a slot on the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team. In addition to racing for WCS points, athletes are also looking to score points toward securing a spot for their country at the 2012 Olympic Games.

Stop No. 6 of the WCS will be held Aug. 14-15 in Kitzbühel, Austria.
