COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Olympians Laura Bennett and Jarrod Shoemaker earned top-10 finishes on the 2012 Olympic course in London, and Americans Ben Hoffman and Amy Marsh were victorious at Ironman Lake Placid over the weekend.

Bennett Grabs Fifth in London to Lead Team USA
Olympian Laura Bennett’s fifth-place finish paced the American contingent Saturday at the fifth stop of the 2010 Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series at London’s Hyde Park.
Bennett (Boulder, Colo.) covered the Olympic-distance course, which will host the 2012 London Olympic triathlon, in 1 hour, 52 minutes, 34 seconds. The USA Triathlon National Team member got off to a strong start on the swim and led the race into T1 before closing with a 34:39 run split to grab fifth. Click here to read USA Triathlon’s recap.
Shoemaker Posts Fourth Consecutive Top-10 WCS Finish
Olympian and USA Triathlon National Team member Jarrod Shoemaker grabbed his second straight seventh-place finish and crossed the finish line in the top 10 for the fourth consecutive Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series event Sunday at London’s Hyde Park.
Shoemaker (Maynard, Mass.) covered the Olympic-distance event in 1:42:57 – just 49 seconds off the pace of winner Javier Gomez of Spain, who was victorious in 1:42:08. Always strong on the run, Shoemaker locked up yet another top-10 finish with a 30:09 10k run split. Click here to read USA Triathlon’s recap.
Shoemaker has been a model of consistency this season with respective finishes of eighth, ninth, seventh and seventh in his last four WCS events. With Sunday’s showing, he moved to sixth in the WCS series rankings and is now the top-ranked American – male or female – on this season’s circuit. On the women’s side, Sarah Haskins (Colorado Springs, Colo.) is 12th, and Bennett sits 13th.
Hoffman, Marsh Take Lake Placid
Ben Hoffman (Durango, Colo.) and Amy Marsh (Austin, Texas) were victorious Sunday at Ironman Lake Placid. Hoffman topped the field by nearly seven minutes, posting a time of 8:39:34. Marsh’s time of 9:27:30 was nearly 17 minutes ahead of runner up Caitlin Snow (Brockton, Mass.). Click here for full coverage from Ironman.

More than 40 of the top American up-and-coming triathletes will be in action Saturday in Colorado Springs in a USA Triathlon Elite Development Race. Highlighting the field are 2010 USA Triathlon collegiate national champion Nicole Kelleher (Mercer Island, Wash.) and this year’s USAT overall duathlon national champion Kaleb VanOrt (Mishawaka, Ind.). Project 2012 standout Tim O’Donnell (Boulder, Colo.) will look to defend his title Sunday at the 2010 ITU Long Course Triathlon World Championship in Immenstadt, Germany.
