Unique Results Format to Debut at Collegiate Nationals

April 08, 2009

The 2009 USAT Collegiate National Championships will debut ZumTri, a new way to view triathlon results. ZumTri is a web-based application that transforms chip timing results into interactive race visualizations.

For the first time, participants will be able watch a post-race, virtual replay of all participants on the race map. They can watch themselves compete against their friends, their division and all other athletes in the race.

In addition to the interactive map, participants can analyze their performance with various graphs & charts. The ability to compare themselves with others is carried throughout the entire application.

The marathon version, ZumRun, premiered on February 22nd at the Runningandliving.com Marathon & Half. Race Director Rahul Verghese commented, "Our experience with ZumRun was great! The participants were delighted as this was something they had never experienced before. It's both fun and has some serious analysis for improvement."

ZumTri works by taking event results and calculates the pace to estimate the participants positions throughout the race. Since it is compatible with current timing systems, it makes a location-based experience without requiring GPS. But what really sets ZumTri apart is the ability to share your race with others. Who hasn't seen the eyes of a non-racer glaze over when recapping a race. Now the race is understandable by anyone. It is free to participants, with additional races rolling out this season.

ZumTri was started by three brothers from the Midwest who had the simple observation that race results could be made to come to life. Their goal is to make race results more engaging, fun and meaningful for endurance athletes.
