TRIATHLON: Wheaties Features Shoemaker on Limited Edition Box
U.S. Olympian Jarrod Shoemaker can add an appearance on a new, limited edition box of Wheaties to his numerous accomplishments. Shoemaker is featured on boxes of Wheaties,"The Breakfast of Champions"in honor of his success as a professional triathlete and Beijing Olympian. The 2005 ITU U23 World Champion, Shoemaker (Sudbury, Mass.) is the second American professional triathlete featured by Wheaties. Two-time Olympian Hunter Kemper appeared on the box in 2007."It's a great honor for me to be on the cover of the Wheaties box and to join the remarkable list of great athletes who have appeared on the package,"Shoemaker said."Every athlete dreams about one day seeing themselves on the cover of the 'Breakfast of Champions' package."In the fall of 2007, Shoemaker and Laura Bennett became the first U.S. triathletes to qualify for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Shoemaker's 11th place finish at the Beijing World Cup earned him a spot on the team. Shoemaker competed in cross country and track at Dartmouth College before shifting his focus to triathlon. He turned professional in 2003 and within two years, he had won the Under 23 World Championship. Shoemaker joined USA Triathlon's Elite National Team in 2006 and has produced nine top-10 finishes over two years."He is truly one of the brightest stars in the triathlon today, and the sky is the limit for how good he can become,"said Dan Stangler of Wheaties. Besides the Olympics, Shoemaker is preparing for the Hy-Vee ITU World Cup in Des Moines, Iowa, in June where the final spots on the Olympic team will be decided. The Wheaties package featuring Shoemaker is available regionally in Iowa and Boston. See the box image: http://www.usatriathlon.org/upload/images/shoemaker_wheaties.jpg
