COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 27 2008) The National Training Center Sports Medicine Institute, a USA Triathlon Approved Education Provider, will host a USAT-approved CEU course in lactate testing for coaches and athletes May 30 through June 1.

This CEU is a hands-on, how-to course at the NTC-SMI in Clermont, Fla. The emerging education program is intended to focus specifically on applied practices that enhance the skill set of USA Triathlon certified coaches.

Participants will learn the essentials of physiological testing for endurance athletes, including pre-testing guidelines, testing processes, plus interpretation and implementation of results. The course will cover multiple methods for physiologic performance monitoring, but the focus is on lactate testing.

Coaches will acquire the skill set needed to perform testing and lactate-based training. Coaches also will gain an understanding of the purposes, myths and potential in metabolic analysis.

Participants will be guided on what assessment data means and how to use it to develop training plans for performance enhancement. A mini-session will include a review of developing lactate testing in your organization. The clinic will culminate with coaches using hands-on practice to confirm their skills.

The 10 CEU course is a part of USA Triathlon’s certified curriculum for existing coaches, simultaneously meeting the demands for continuing education and professional development. In time, coaches will be able to focus on tracks that most benefit them, including sports science, business development, youth coaching, and others.

Registration can be found on usatriathlon.org in the clinic schedule in the coaching section or at active.com.
