COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The USA Triathlon Women’s Committee is hosting a free swimming clinic on Thursday, Sept. 23 for residents of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and its surrounding communities in conjunction with the 2010 USA Triathlon Elite, Age Group and Sprint National Championships.

Led by USA Triathlon-certified coaches Marty and Brianne Gaal from One Step Beyond Multisport Coaching in Cary, N.C., the clinic is open to anyone interested in gaining the skills necessary to become a more efficient swimmer. 2004 U.S. Olympic bronze medalist Susan Williams will also be on hand.

Registration for the event will begin on Aug. 16 through usatriathlon.org and is limited to the first 25 participants. Participants must be at least 16 years of age. The clinic will be held at the Tuscaloosa YMCA, located at 2405 Paul W. Bryant Drive, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. CDT.

The USA Triathlon Women’s Committee, chaired by Awilda Harrington, is focused on creating a resource for female athletes of all levels and socio-economic backgrounds and mentoring professional growth for women in the sport of triathlon. Having already met its goal of equalizing women-to-men triathlon participation, the Women’s Committee is concentrating on the quality of training and opportunities available for women in positions of authority and decision-making within the associations that govern the sport.

For the second straight year USA Triathlon will bring its signature event to Tuscaloosa. From Sept. 25-26 elite, age group and sprint national titles will be on the line in what promises to be another memorable weekend of multisport action. Visit usatriathlon.org for more information on the event.
