2012 Board of Directors Announced, Including Three New Officers
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — USA Triathlon Board of Directors President Bob Wendling was re-elected for a second term, and three other board members were selected to officer seats, Sunday, Jan. 15 at the organization’s first board meeting of the year at Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs.
Elected president for the first time in January 2011, Wendling (Springfield, Va.) represents USA Triathlon’s Mid-Atlantic Region. He has been involved with the sport for more than 25 years as a competitor, certified official, Mid-Atlantic Region Council representative and Board of Directors member. Wendling served as the board’s treasurer before being elected president a year ago. He is the co-founder and Vice President of Management Information Services, Inc., a Washington D.C.-based economic and energy consulting company.
Joining Wendling as elected officers are: Vice President John Lines (Murfreesboro, Tenn., Southeast Region), Secretary Victor Plata (Monterey, Calif., Elite Athlete Director) and Treasurer Jack Weiss (Euless, Texas, South Midwest Region). All officers were elected to a two-year term.
Lines, who is in his second year as a board member, is a 30-year veteran of multisport and a two-time member of Team USA for the 2010 and 2011 ITU World Championships. He is currently the Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary to the Board of Directors of National HealthCare Corporation.
Plata has been involved with the sport as a competitor and now coach for nearly 20 years and was a member of the 2004 U.S. Olympic Triathlon Team. He currently works as an attorney and coach.
Weiss, a full-time USA Triathlon-certified race director and a certified coach, has been active as a race director since 1987. He previously served more than eight years on the Board of Directors, before stepping down in 2006.
As mandated by USA Triathlon Bylaws, the officer seats — President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary — are elected from the members of the Board of Directors with the vote taking place at the first regular meeting of the year following an election.
