Nine Americans Claim Age Group Titles in Kona
KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii — Nine Americans finished atop their respective age groups at Saturday’s Ironman World Championship. In all, nearly 1,900 athletes from around the globe finished the ultra-challenging 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike, 26.2-mile run event.
Additionally, a pair of Americans were victorious in the paratriathlon categories. Andre Kajlich (Seattle, Wash.) won the Male HC title in 10:30:19, while Amy Dodson (Tucson, Ariz.) claimed the Female PC win in 14:03:32.
Among the U.S. age group winners was Beatrice Burns (Hamden, Conn.), who also won the sprint and Olympic-distance women’s 70-74 titles on back-to-back days at August’s USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships in Burlington, Vt.
