USA Triathlon Club Nationals Added to 2013 ITU World Triathlon San Diego Slate
World-class multisport event returns to Mission Beach on April 18-20, 2013
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Following a successful debut event in May with nearly 2,100 amateurs and the world's top elite triathletes, the ITU World Triathlon San Diego is set to return to Mission Beach on April 18-20, 2013. In addition to the same races hosted in 2012, next year's event will serve as the 2013 USA Triathlon Club National Championships.Registration for all ITU World Triathlon San Diego age-group races is now open at sandiego.triathlon.org. Once again, Olympic-distance (1,500m swim, 40k bike, 10k run), sprint-distance (750m swim, 20k bike, 5k run) and Olympic-distance relay events will be offered in an iconic venue adjacent to the birthplace of triathlon. An aquabike race (1.5k swim, 40k bike) has also been added to the second edition of the race weekend.
The 2013 ITU World Triathlon San Diego elite races will serve as the second stop in the 2013 ITU World Triathlon Series, the world's top Olympic-distance race series which crowns the annual ITU world champion.

The addition of Club Nationals to an already exciting race weekend will only raise the profile of this remarkable event."
Age-groupers from ages 14 to 90 from 42 states and 16 countries competed in the 2012 ITU World Triathlon San Diego.

Official USA Triathlon clubs are eligible to compete for one of five national titles based on the club's total membership size at the 2013 USA Triathlon Club National Championships, held in conjunction with the ITU World Triathlon San Diego.
Club Nationals scoring is based on individual performances in the age group sprint, Olympic-distance and aquabike races. Entrants affiliated with an official USA Triathlon Club will earn points for their club in the championship event based on their finish in any of the individual races.Participating clubs will be placed in one of five divisions based on their full roster size:
• Division I: 250-plus Total Members
• Division II: 130-249 Total Members
• Division III: 89-129 Total Members
• Division IV: 30-88 Total Members
• Division V: 2-29 Total Members

Emerging from the excitement of the highly successful London 2012 Olympic Games, the 2013 ITU World Triathlon Series visits eight cities in four continents as the world's top triathletes compete head-to-head to be crowned the 2013 ITU World Champion. Entering its fifth season, triathlon's premier global series features eight rounds of race action, culminating with the Grand Final on the 2012 Olympic course in Hyde Park, London.
Great Britain's Jonathan Brownlee and Helen Jenkins won the inaugural ITU World Triathlon San Diego titles while Americans Laura Bennett, Manuel Huerta and Hunter Kemper earned spots on the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team on their home soil. A $170,000 prize purse was on the line in San Diego this year, with $20,000 going to the male and female winners. The 2012 event featured 140 of the world's top Olympic-distance triathletes in the lead-up to the 2012 London Olympic Games.2013 ITU World Triathlon Series:
