Vote USA Paratriathlon National Team Member Melissa Stockwell for a 2012 ESPY Award
Don’t miss the opportunity to vote for USA Paratriathlon National Team member Melissa Stockwell, who is nominated for a 2012 ESPY Award in the “Best Female Athlete with a Disability” category. Voting ends July 9 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern.
Stockwell (Chicago, Ill.) was the first female American soldier in history to lose a limb in active combat and was the first Iraq War veteran to compete in the Paralympic Games when she did so as a swimmer in 2008.
Since turning her attention to swimming, biking and running, Stockwell has become one the world’s best and most inspirational paratriathletes. She won the 2010 and 2011 ITU Paratriathlon World Championship titles in the TRI-2 category, earned USA Paratriathlon national titles in 2011 and 2012 and is a two-time USA Paratriathlon Athlete of the Year.
She will look to defend her world title at the 2012 ITU Paratriathlon World Championships in October in Auckland, New Zealand.
