Jorgensen, Shoemaker Set to Race at ITU World Triathlon Yokohama
Third ITU World Triathlon Series event of 2013 set for this weekend
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Top triathletes Gwen Jorgensen and Jarrod Shoemaker will represent the United States on the third stop of the International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Triathlon Series in Yokohama, Japan, on Saturday.
The elite women’s race is set for 7:06 p.m. Eastern on Friday, followed by the elite men at 10:01 p.m. Eastern. A live webcast of the Olympic-distance event, featuring a 1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike and 10-kilometer run, will be available at triathlonlive.tv.
Jorgensen (St. Paul, Minn.) recently made history as the first American woman to win a World Triathlon Series event on April 19 at the Omegawave World Triathlon San Diego. She now owns a trio of podium finishes in the series. Jorgensen is currently the No.1-ranked U.S. woman in the 2013 WTS standings and is ranked sixth overall. Shoemaker (Clermont, Fla.) opened his 2013 season with a third-place effort at the March 9 Clermont ITU Sprint Pan American Cup. He also finished sixth in his first half-Ironman attempt, Ironman 70.3 San Juan, on March 17. In 2012, Shoemaker was ranked 29th in the series and first among U.S. men.
