Triathletes Select USA Triathlon National Championships as Best Events of 2013
Age Group, Collegiate Nationals honored at Triathlon Business International Annual Conference
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Two USA Triathlon-owned National Championship events — Age Group Nationals and Collegiate Nationals — were honored as the best events of 2013 at the Triathlon Business International (TBI) 2014 Annual Conference on Monday night in Marina del Rey, Calif.
USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships, held in Milwaukee, Wis., were named the Best Urban Triathlon. Considered the organization’s marquee event, athletes have the option of competing for national titles in Olympic-distance or sprint races. The 2013 event, held near Discovery World and the Milwaukee Art Museum, drew a record field of more than 4,000 competitors from all 50 states, ranging in age from 15 to 89. Participation in the event has more than doubled since 2010.
The two-day event returns to Milwaukee in 2014. Registration for Sprint Nationals is now open at usatriathlon.org/agnc14sprint. Athletes who have qualified for Olympic-Distance Nationals will receive an email with registration instructions. Qualifying information is available at usatriathlon.org/agnc14oly.
New in 2013, the sprint-distance USA Triathlon Draft-Legal Collegiate Championships were named the best Draft-Legal Triathlon. The event, part of the USA Triathlon Collegiate National Championships weekend in Tempe, Ariz., showcased up-and-coming collegiate triathlon talent in the draft-legal format contested on the International Triathlon Union circuit and in the Olympic Games. Registration is now open for 2014 Collegiate Nationals, set for April 4-5 in Tempe. Visit usatriathlon.org/usatcn14 for more information.
The 10 winners of the Triathletes’ Choice: Best Events of 2013 were announced at the TBI/ACTIVE Network Awards Celebration dinner, held as part of TBI’s fourth annual conference on Jan. 26-28 at the Marina del Rey Marriott.
