Milwaukee to Host USA Triathlon Super Sprint Series Event on Aug. 9
Elites and junior elites compete in growing draft-legal format
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The USA Triathlon Super Sprint Series will showcase the draft-legal talents of 35 elite and junior elite athletes in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Aug. 9 in conjunction with the USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships weekend.
Held on and around the grounds of the Milwaukee Art Museum and Discovery World, elite and junior elite triathletes will complete two continuous circuits of the same course, including a 325-meter swim, 4-kilometer bike and 1.5-kilometer run. The women are slated to start at 1:45 p.m. CT, and the men will start at 2:55 p.m. CT. Visit usatriathlon.org/ss14milwaukee for more information.
“With an immense amount of triathlon talent on display as part of our Age Group Nationals weekend, we believed it made sense to showcase the Super Sprint Series as part of the schedule,” said Rob Urbach, USA Triathlon CEO. “The Milwaukee community has been incredibly supportive of our event, and we hope they will enjoy this exciting new format as part of the races next weekend.”
Athletes will compete for a share of the prize purse of $4,950 split evenly between the men’s and women’s fields. The top finisher will receive $1,450, while the second-place finisher will earn $600 and the third-place finisher will earn $425. The USA Triathlon Super Sprint Series offers the opportunity for the nation’s emerging and Olympic-level triathletes to enhance draft-legal cycling skills and race tactics. A current start list is below.
The Milwaukee Super Sprint event is part of an exciting multisport weekend in Milwaukee, with a record field of 5,700 age-group athletes competing in the 2014 USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships. All of the weekend’s events — Olympic-Distance Nationals, Sprint Nationals and the Super Sprint race — will be live streamed on usatriathlon.org, with races beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, and Sunday, Aug. 10. More information on live coverage from Milwaukee will be available next week.
