Richmond, VA hosted the East Coast Triathlon Festival on May 5th.  This event included a full day of races for all ages and abilities, including the following:

East Coast Triathlon FestivalUSAT Youth/Junior Elite Triathlon Cup - Age 13-19 elite race which qualified for Youth/Junior Elite Nationals and featured the top youth talent in North America

U25/Collegiate Elite Development Triathlon - Draft legal elite development race for ages 20-25 with the top finishers receiving their pro licenses

Kids Fun Triathlon - Safe introduction to open water triathlon for ages 7-15
Super Sprint Triathlon
– Super short triathlon (375m S / 6.2mi B / 1.55mi R) for adults who are new to sport or veterans looking to test just how fast they can go

All races were held within an office park on a multi-loop course that was closed to vehicles, making it incredibly spectator-friendly.  The looped course encircled the lake swim as well as the main staging area which included the transition area, a spectator viewing area (including jumbotron with live race video), an athlete lounge, a team tent area, and a full expo area.

Athletes from all over North America attended with representation from almost every state as well as Canada.  The Youth/Junior Elite Cup featured the top junior talent in the country, many of whom are on USAT’s Olympic pipeline.  Both this and the U25 Elite Development Race featured a draft legal bike, the same format utilized in the Olympics, which keeps the athletes close and makes for some tight head-to-head finishes.

The race was produced by Endorphin Fitness and timed by Set Up Events.  Next year’s event will be held on May 4, 2014.  To learn about next year’s race, click here to visit their website.  In addition to youth/adult coaching and retail, Endorphin Fitness produces a series of youth triathlons in Virginia – if interested, visit
