Best of luck to Midwest Youth/Juniors headed to San Diego
A record total of more than 500 youth and junior triathletes will be in action in San Diego on Aug. 14-15 at USA Triathlon’s Junior Triathlon Festival at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD). Thirteen races, including youth elite and junior elite national championships, will be held over the course of the weekend and we want to give a special GOOD LUCK! to a number of athletes from the Midwest set to compete:
Tanelle Berard (Clive, Iowa), 18, (2010 Midwest grant recipient) returning 2009 junior elite champion
Jennifer Brown (Waukee, Iowa), 15, 2009 youth elite 3rd place winner
Katharine Lowrey (Chaska, MN), 15, (2010 Midwest grant recipient) defending elite champion won the girls' youth elite title in Colorado Springs last year
Spencer Clark (Clive, Iowa), 15, rated #1 in 2010 Youth Elite National Rankings following youth elite victories in Colorado Springs and Wes Des Moines, Iowa, last month.
Tony Smoragiewicz (Rapid City, S.D.), 16, finished sixth in the USAT Elite Development Race in Colorado Springs

Saturday, Aug. 14 will feature junior elite and youth elite events, followed by boys and girls races for ages 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-15. The festival will close Sunday, Aug. 15 with a new, draft-legal team relay event.
USA Triathlon will offer in-depth pre-event and post-event coverage on usatriathlon.org, and a live blog will allow family, friends and fans to follow the junior elite and youth elite races.
