Welcome Newest Midwest Council Member, Tom Mertz
The Midwest Council would like to welcome it's newest member, Tom Mertz. Tom is also currently on the Board of Directors for the Des Moines Triathlon Club and also on the Board of Managers for the YMCA Healthy Living Center in Clive, IA. He is supported by his wife Sarah, and 4.5 year old twins Talan and Tenley.

From Tom Mertz:
"I came in to the sport of triathlon 4 years ago. I had lost my dad to a brain tumor and was having a hard time dealing with the loss. My wife I and took our kids down to watch the finish of the women's elite race that first year of Hy-Vee, and I found something so inspirational in it. I decided right then that I would cross the finish line next year in honor of my dad. I've been hooked ever since.
I'd like to get involved with USAT as a way to give back to the group and the sport that really turned my life around. I was depressed, angry, over weight, eating poorly - just generally unhealthy - until I discovered triathlon. I've embraced not just the sport, but the lifestyle as a whole. I'm easily in the best shape of my life, and I'm grateful for it. Getting involved with USAT would be my way of saying thank you!"
