Midwest Region Needs USAT Officials

(0 votes)

If you have good judgment and a sense of fair play or know a friend or family member who does, please consider the USAT Officials program. USAT officials help bring fairness to races by enforcing the Competitive Rules of USA Triathlon.

The Midwest Region currently has 30 active certified officials.

Three training sessions are currently planned for the 2011 season. (A fourth may be added later in the season depending on interest.)  A clinic/race practicum will be held in conjunction with:

  • Big Foot Triathlon in Lake Geneva, WI on June 25-26,
  • Lifetime Fitness Triathlon in Minneapolis on July 8-9,
  • Hy-Vee Triathlon, 51.50 Championship on Sept. 3-4.

Prospective officials attend an afternoon classroom session on the day prior to race day, then help officiate the race. A take-home exam must be completed prior to the clinic.

Upon successful completion of the clinic, new officials then work two additional races as an apprentice. Upon satisfactory completion of these requirements, officials may be assigned to work races throughout the Midwest. For complete details and a job description, go to, then click on “Resources” and then scroll down to  “For Officials” or follow this link:

Officials must have a strong sense of integrity, be willing to ride as a passenger on a motorcycle and for reasons of safety, weigh less than 215 pounds. For an application or to refer a friend or family member, contact Lucy Harr, Midwest Regional Coordinator of Officials at or call 608 219 2365.
