Athletes at USA Triathlon Nationals will race at Grays Lake Park, a 167-acre urban recreational hub anchored by a 100-acre lake, with transition located just steps from the water’s edge. Athletes will then head out of the park for a flat and fast bike ride through the countryside. The run course will cross the iconic illuminated Kruidenier Trail Pedestrian Bridge in the heart of the city, and athletes will finish at the Lauridsen Amphitheater in Water Works Park which spans nearly 1,500 acres of open green space.
The venue will also host the event expo, packet pickup, and post-race festivities, all with easy access to the start line at Grays Lake Park.
Athletes aiming to race in the 2027 USA Triathlon Nationals must qualify for the Sprint and Olympic Distance events at a USA Triathlon Sanctioned event. There are several ways to earn that qualification. Athletes MUST be annual USA Triathlon members to race. There are no Bronze (single event) memberships sold for this event. Think you've missed your qualification email? Contact service@usatriathlon.org to receive your link.
The 2027 qualification period runs from June 1, 2026 to July 30, 2027. If you hit one or more of the qualification marks below, you've qualified for 2026 USA Triathlon Nationals for races that require qualification!
Note: The qualification period for 2028 runs June 1, 2027, to July 30, 2028. If you earn a qualifying mark on a day that's in both qualification periods (June 1, 2027 - July 30, 2027), you've qualified for both years' Nationals in events requiring qualification.
Only individual-category participants qualify for Nationals. Elite and Relay categories do not qualify.
Qualification is based on an athlete's age-group finish only
- However, if an athlete wins an overall award and is subsequently removed from their event's age group, they will be placed back into the age group for qualifications and rankings purposes.
Qualification Process
If you have qualified through the below criteria, you will automatically receive a “You’ve Qualified” email from USA Triathlon after race results have been submitted. Your registration link is in that email. You may also log in to your Member Hub to see a notification with your registration link. That link will be valid until registration closes.
If you're expecting a qualification email but it hasn't yet arrived, check your email that is associated with your USA Triathlon account, including the spam/junk folder. If it still hasn't arrived, wait at least 20 days before contacting USA Triathlon as Race Directors have 10 days after an event to submit results. Also note that:
- Athletes in your age group may have been removed for an overall award and placed back into their age group for qualification and rankings purposes.
- If you competed in an elite, open or relay wave at an event, you cannot qualify through that event. The only category you can compete in to qualify is an age group category.
- Events must be USA Triathlon Sanctioned in order to qualify for USA Triathlon Sprint and Olympic Distance National Championships.
You may qualify through any local USA Triathlon Sanctioned age group triathlon of any distance, including Cross and Gravel triathlons (excludes Winter Triathlon). These events include all non-championship events. To qualify, you must place in the top three places or top 20% of your age group (whichever is greater). Placing via this criteria qualifies you for both Sprint AND Olympic Distance National Championship races.
Note: USA Triathlon will round to the next whole number for qualification calculations.
State championships qualify the top 35% or top five (5) finishers in an age group (whichever is greater). You may only qualify for Olympic distance Nationals by placing in the Olympic distance State Championship race or Sprint Nationals by placing in the sprint distance State Championship race.
High School State Championships Exemption: All high school athletes who finish any of the State High School Championships will automatically qualify for the Sprint distance event (pending they are at least age 15 as of December 31, 2026.)
