Dylan Sorensen, Gabriela Gallegos Elected as Chair, Vice Chair of USA Triathlon Board of Directors; Milena Alberti Joins as Independent Director

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Dylan Sorensen, formerly Vice Chair of the USA Triathlon Board of Directors, has been elected as USA Triathlon Board of Directors Chair, USA Triathlon announced today. In addition, Gabriela Gallegos has been elected as Vice Chair and Milena Alberti has been selected as a new independent director.
Sorensen and Gallegos were elected to their respective positions at the Aug. 6 USA Triathlon Board of Directors meeting, while Alberti was selected as an independent director on Aug. 19.

Chair of the USA Triathlon Board of Directors, Sorensen also serves as Chair of USA Triathlon's Nominating and Governance, and Compensation Committees and is a member of the organization's Athletes' Advisory Council and Finance and Audit Committee. He also serves on the leadership team of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee's Team USA Athletes' Commission.
A former U.S. elite triathlete, Sorensen remains an active age group athlete with the Olympic Club and Age Group Team USA, and is deeply committed to creating strong, inclusive opportunities for athletes throughout the multisport community.
Professionally, Sorensen works in the technology industry at Omni, a Series C AI analytics company. His background spans technology, organizational growth, operations, athlete development, and sports governance.
Sorensen is a graduate of Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business and holds a master's degree in sports industry management from Georgetown. He previously coached track and field and cross country at Stanford University and the University of North Carolina, where athletes he coached went on to earn medals at the Pan American and Olympic Games, win NCAA championships, and break multiple American and World records. He lives in San Francisco, California, with his wife, Dr. Abigail Sorensen.

Gallegos, from El Paso, Texas, has served on the USA Triathlon Board of Directors since 2018. She brings nearly two decades of experience in sport governance, organizational leadership, law, and event production to the Board. In addition to her leadership with USA Triathlon, Gallegos serves as Vice President of World Triathlon, where she works with leaders across more than 140 national federations to advance the sport worldwide.
Gallegos is an Associate Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) School of Public Health, where she teaches leadership, advocacy, and health policy and leads community health initiatives. A former appellate attorney, she earned her Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University and both her Master of Public Policy and Juris Doctor from the University of California, Berkeley. She has extensive experience in governance, strategic planning, policy development, and organizational leadership.
In 2009, Gallegos founded Race El Paso, one of the Southwest’s most impactful multisport event organizations, producing races that introduced thousands of athletes to triathlon and expanded opportunities for women and first-time participants. She has presented nationally on community and media engagement, athlete participation, and best practices for growing the sport.

This sport has shaped my life and career, and I am grateful for the trust my fellow Board members have placed in me,” Gallegos said. “I look forward to working alongside our Board, CEO, staff, race directors, coaches, clubs, and members to strengthen our organization and support and grow our multisport community. Together, we have an exciting opportunity to build on our momentum as we prepare for LA28 and continue advancing the sport we all love.”
Alberti, who lives in New York City, brings more than 25 years of leadership experience in the media industry, including serving as Chief Financial Officer of Penguin Random House, where she spent over half of her career. In recent years, she has served on the boards of several public, private, and nonprofit organizations, including Scholastic, Pitney Bowes, National Public Radio, Jumpstart, the Freedom to Learn Foundation, and the Wild Bird Fund. A respected governance and finance leader, Alberti has chaired audit committees for many of these organizations, bringing deep expertise in financial oversight, data-driven decision-making, and long-term strategic growth.
A passionate triathlete, Alberti completed her first triathlon in 2022 and has since qualified for and competed in two Age-Group World Championship events, three National Championship events, and numerous races across the United States. Her progression in the sport reflects her deep commitment to the triathlon community.
