As USA Triathlon continues the push toward women's collegiate triathlon achieving NCAA Championship sport status, leaders across the country are helping shape the future of the sport. At Northern Kentucky University, that leader is Brooks Doughtie.

Doughtie, head coach of the Northern Kentucky University women’s NCAA triathlon program and men’s collegiate club program, was named the 2025-26 NKU Coach of the Year. at “The Victors.”

The Coach of the Year award is voted on by Northern Kentucky student-athletes throughout the athletic department, making the honor especially meaningful. Doughtie was honored in May at “The Victors” award ceremony, which annually honors Northern Kentucky University student-athletes, coaches and teams for excellence in competition, academics, and community service.

“Brooks has done an outstanding job building a strong foundation for the future of our triathlon program at Northern Kentucky University," said Interim Director of Athletics John Mason. "His leadership, passion, and dedication to our student-athletes embody what it means to be a Norse. This Coach of the Year recognition is incredibly well deserved and reflects the culture he has established within the program.”

NKU Triathlon is projected to reach major roster growth milestones for the 2026 school year, with the women’s NCAA roster expected to surpass 10 student-athletes and the men’s club program projected to reach its maximum roster capacity of 14 athletes.

As women’s collegiate triathlon continues expanding nationwide and gains momentum toward full NCAA Championship status, programs like Northern Kentucky are helping demonstrate the sport’s growing impact on campuses across the country.

Under Doughtie’s leadership, NKU Triathlon has established itself as a rising program built on competitive success, student-athlete development, and a strong sense of community.

Philanthropy through the USA Triathlon Foundation supports the infrastructure and opportunities necessary for women’s collegiate triathlon to achieve NCAA Championship sport status and long-term success.
