Sprint Triathlon National Championship Titles Crowned in Milwaukee at 2026 USA Triathlon Nationals

MILWAUKEE — Triathlon racing at USA Triathlon Nationals concluded on Sunday, Aug. 9 in Milwaukee, as thousands of the country’s top age group athletes raced for national titles in the Sprint National Championships and Paratriathlon National Championships.   

USA Triathlon Nationals is USA Triathlon’s largest and longest-running National Championship event, held annually since 1983. With more than 4,500 athletes competing in Milwaukee this year, the event expanded into three days, with the addition of Friday’s Draft Legal Sprint Triathlon National Championships and Saturday’s Mixed Relay Triathlon National Championships. Milwaukee has hosted USA Triathlon’s Sprint and Olympic-Distance National Championships several times, including from 2013-2015, 2021-2023 and again in 2025. 

Athletes from across the country raced this weekend in Milwaukee for national titles in their respective age groups, and for the opportunity to represent age group Team USA at the 2027 World Triathlon Age Group World Championships in Hamburg, Germany. 

Sprint Triathlon National Championships 

Cheyenne Nixon (Sunbury, Ohio) won the overall women’s Sprint Triathlon National Championships national title, while Kyle Berg (Erie, Colo.) won the men’s title. 

Athletes raced a 750-meter swim in Lake Michigan, near Discovery World, a 20-kilometer bike ride along Lincoln Memorial Drive, and a 5k run through Veterans Park, finishing along the shoreline.

Nixon, 30, was the top women’s finisher on Sunday, completing the Sprint distance triathlon in a time of 1 hour, 4 minutes, 12 seconds. The overall victory on Sunday was even sweeter for Nixon, who finished second in the overall in Saturday’s Olympic Distance National Championships. 

A former NCAA swimmer at Ohio State University, Nixon started triathlon a few years ago, racing several IRONMAN 70.3 events. This weekend in Milwaukee was her first USA Triathlon Nationals experience, and she enjoyed the beautiful race venue and camaraderie among the athletes and spectators. 

“I love this venue,” Nixon said. “It’s so beautiful being right on Lake Michigan.

“I feel like the community support has been great," she said. "Like out on the run course, so many people were cheering, and that really helped get me through to the finish line.”

Berg, 22, won the men’s overall title, sprinting to victory in a time of 56:30.  

A former NCAA runner at Santa Clara University, Berg showed his impressive run speed, clocking a 15:28 5k to secure the national championship victory.
