QUIBERON, France — USA TRI National Team athlete John Reed (Virginia Beach, Va.) raced his best performance of the 2026 season on Saturday, June 20, placing eighth at the 2026 World Triathlon Championship Series Quiberon.

2016 Olympic gold medalist Gwen Jorgensen (Boulder, Colo.) led the USA TRI women with a 10th place finish in Quiberon, which featured the first sprint-distance event of the 2026 World Triathlon Championship Series.

A new addition to the WTCS circuit, Quiberon featured a 750-meter, beach start swim, a 20k, four-loop bike circuit, and a 5k run. In addition to Saturday’s individual races, athletes return on Sunday, June 21 for the first Mixed Relay competition of the season.

Men’s Race

Reed’s season took a positive turn on Saturday in France, reversing the bad fortune he’s experienced thus far on the 2026 World Triathlon Championship Series circuit. This season, he’s endured an ill-timed illness the night before race day (at Samarkand) and a flat tire (Yokohama) in his first two WTCS events.

On Saturday, however, with good health and good fortune on the bike with no mechanical issues, Reed showed his world-class speed, running the day’s fourth-fastest 5k (14 minutes, 15 seconds) to turn in a top-10 finish, placing eighth for his best performance of the 2026 season.

USA TRI teammate Seth Rider (Germantown, Tenn.) also raced his best WTCS finish of the season, placing 13th.

Dorian Coninx of France won the race in a sprint finish, pulling away from Portugal’s Vasco Vilaça on the blue carpet. Vilaca’s countryman, Ricardo Batista, placed third.

Women’s Race

Jorgensen outsprinted USA TRI teammate Gina Sereno (Madison, Wis.) in a photo finish to place 10th, for her second top-10 finish of the season.

USA TRI teammate Danielle Orie (Orchard Park, N.Y) placed 47th.

Countrywoman Cassandre Beaugrand won in front of her home fans, outrunning Sweden’s Tilda Mansson. Jolien Vermeylen of Belgium placed third.

Coming Sunday: First Mixed Relay Competition of the Season

Seventeen nations line up for the Mixed Relay at the 2026 World Triathlon Championship Series in Quiberon for the first Mixed Relay of the LA28 Olympic Qualification cycle.

Gina Sereno, Seth Rider, Gwen Jorgensen, and John Reed make up the USA TRI team, looking to make a statement ahead of the Mixed Relay World Championships to be held next month at World Triathlon Championship Series Hamburg.

Rider brings recent medal-winning experience in the Mixed Relay; he was a member of the U.S. Olympic Mixed Relay team that captured silver in dramatic sprint finish fashion at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Fans can watch the races in Quiberon live and on demand on TriathlonLive.tv. The Mixed Relay begins on Sunday, June 21 at 11 a.m. ET/8 a.m. PT (5 p.m. local time in Quiberon).

The full start list for the Mixed Relay is available here.

Philanthropy Supports USA TRI Elite Athletes

With the Olympic Games returning to U.S. soil in 2028 — and triathlon set to open the LA28 Olympic Games as the first medal event — fans can support USA TRI athletes journeys through Elevate28, the USA Triathlon Foundation's most ambitious campaign yet.

Because USA Triathlon receives no direct government funding, philanthropy fuels the world-class coaching, training environments, sport science, and international competition U.S. athletes rely on to compete and win on home soil. To join the movement, visit usatriathlon.org/foundation/elevate28.
