Athletes Race at USA Triathlon Cross National Championships in Austin, Texas

AUSTIN, Texas - Triathletes from across the U.S. took on the mountain biking and trail-running trails at the USA Triathlon Cross National Championships on April 18 in Austin, Texas. Hosted in partnership with Race Revolutions, USA Triathlon Cross National Championships is one of USA Triathlon’s 12 National Championship events, offering amateur athletes the opportunity to compete for national titles in a variety of multisport formats and qualify to represent Age Group Team USA at 2027 World Triathlon Age Group World Championships.
The event took place within Pace Bend Park where athletes swam in Lake Travis, followed by a mountain bike and trail run within the park. Races included the Off Road/Cross Triathlon National Championship (1500-meter swim, 29-kilometer mountain bike, 10k run), Off Road/Cross Duathlon National Championship (5k run, 29k mountain bike, 10k run), Off Road/Cross Triathlon Sprint National Championship (750m swim, 12k mountain bike, 5k run) and the Off Road/Cross Duathlon Sprint National Championship (2.5k run, 12k mountain bike, 5k run).
In the Off Road/Cross Triathlon National Championship, Andy Lee (Lakeway, Texas) placed first in a time of 2 hours, 25 minutes, and 17 seconds. Andrzej Stadnik (Portland, Ore.) placed second in 2:26:34 and Kyle Grieser (Marble Falls, Texas) placed third in 2:30:58.
In the women’s race, Jennifer Schmidt (Anchorage, Alaska) placed first in 3:08:37, followed by Janet Soule (Davis, Calif.) in 3:13:05 and Kelly Paterson (Troy, Mich.) in 3:23:37.
After her win, Schmidt said “The bike course [was the most interesting]. We don't have trails like that in Alaska, so it was a very different bike course to do. Mentally it was very engaging.”
In the Athena category, Dianna Bridges (Belleview, Fla.) placed first overall in a time of 3:45:36.
In the Clydesdale category, Scott Cadwallader (Colorado Springs, Colo.) placed first overall in a time of 3:30:57.
In the Off Road/Cross Duathlon National Championship, Jacob Hull (Portland, Ore.) placed first in 2:19:49. Kyle Dow (Wheat Ridge, Colo.) placed second in 2:27:13 and Brent Peacock (Jackson, Wyo.) placed third in 2:50:00.
Tiffany Schwartz (Salt Lake City, Utah) placed first in the women’s race, clocking a final time of 2:55:45, and placing fifth among all racers. Yun Saksena (Lincoln, Neb.) placed second in 4:09:05 and Heather Anderson (Hobe Sound, Fla.) placed third in 4:39:10.
Chris Riehl (Vancouver, Wash.) placed first overall in the Clydesdale category, clocking in at 4:17:41.
In the Off Road/Cross Sprint Triathlon National Championship, 18-year-old Tavish Quinn (Spring, Texas) placed first in 1:16:29. He was followed by Daniel Rossi (Pflugerville, Texas) in 1:24:42 and Stephen Schwarze (Austin, Texas) in 1:25:14.
Michelle Lingenfelser (Prairie Village, Kan.) placed first in the women’s race in a time of 1:52:31. Nicole Morgan (Tulsa, Okla.) placed second in 1:54:49 and Susan Griffin-Kaklikian (Colorado Springs, Colo.) placed third in a time of 1:57:23.
In the Clydesdale category, Lance Fargo (Reisterstown, Md.) placed first in a time of 1:54:23, followed by Tony Ramos (Cedar Park, Texas) in 2:31:16 and Hugh Ayles (Bertram, Texas) in 2:43:31.
In the Off Road/Cross Duathlon Sprint National Championships, Saxby Stradinger (Oklahoma City, Okla.) placed first in a time of 1:09:25, followed by Bryce Fluker (Arvada, Colo.) in 1:11:52. Steve Smith (Poolesville, Md.) placed third in 1:14:18.
“The bike leg was super technical, fast and fun,” said Stradinger.
Bramer Owens (Horseshoe Bay, Texas) placed first in the Clydesdale category in a time of 1:47:40, followed by Trevor Horton (Dublin, Texas) in a time of 2:23:56.
In the women’s race, Monica Doval (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) placed first in a time of 1:38:49, followed by Morgan Aldridge (Sterling, Alaska) in a time of 1:39:23. Christine Knight (Georgetown, Texas) placed third in a time of 1:57:14.
“This was my first time in Austin and I loved it,” said Doval. “Great people, great course, and if they host the off-road [National Championship] again, they will have me again!”
