COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. —Elite triathlon racing continues on May 30 at the World Triathlon Championship Series Alghero, the third stop of the 2026 circuit. Paris 2024 Olympic silver medalist Taylor Knibb (Boulder, Colo.) is set to make her return to short-course, draft-legal racing after competing primarily in long-distance racing since the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Knibb headlines a U.S. elite field that includes Paris Olympic teammates Taylor Spivey (Redondo Beach, Calif.), Seth Rider (Germantown, Tenn.), and Kirsten Kasper (North Andover, Mass.), and fellow USA TRI elite athletes Gina Sereno (Madison, Wis.), Danielle Orie (Orchard Park, N.Y), Chase McQueen (Columbus, Ind.) and Darr Smith (Atlanta, Ga.).

The event marks the first event of the LA28 Olympic qualification cycle, drawing in Olympians including Great Britain’s Beth Potter, Luxembourg’s Jeanne Lehair, plus Australia’s Matt Hauser and Brazil’s Miguel Hidalgo.

Along with Knibb, we will see other Olympic medalists for the first time in the 2026 season including Paris 2024 Olympic Champion Cassandre Beaugrande (FRA), and Georgia Taylor-Brown (GBR) and Hayden Wilde (NZL).

The Olympic Qualification Period runs from May 18, 2026 to May 18, 2027, and May 19, 2027 to May 18, 2028. An athlete’s 12 best scores, and no more than 8 from races shorter than the Olympic distance, will count in the final rankings toward earning quota spots for their country.

As the host nation, the U.S. is guaranteed a Mixed Relay team composed of two men and two women at LA28, provided all athletes meet the eligibility requirements. Read more about LA28 Olympic qualification here.

Alghero, which is located off the coast of Italy on the island of Sardinia, will host the WTCS race for the second time, after first hosting in May 2025. Athletes will complete a standard Olympic distance triathlon, starting with a beach-entry 1,500-meter swim at San Giovanni Beach, followed by a hilly 40-kilometer bike course and a 10-kilometer run on the sea front of Alghero.
