Personal
Sullivan Middaugh grew up in Vail, Colorado, where endurance sports were a family affair. His dad, Josiah Middaugh, is a professional triathlete, and both of his parents competed in Division I track and field and cross country. Sullivan’s younger brother, Porter, is also a triathlete and his teammate on the USA TRI Development Team.
After trying his first IronKids event as a child, Sullivan’s passion for triathlon took hold at age 12 when he competed in an XTERRA sprint triathlon in his hometown. His path changed in 2021 when he qualified for the XTERRA World Championships as an age-group athlete and met Coach Parker Spencer. He joined Project Podium the following year and has continued to develop as a multisport athlete.
Sullivan is a two-time National High School Trail Running Champion, 2022 XTERRA National Champion, 2024 XTERRA Short Track World Champion and 2025 XTERRA North American Championship Short Track Champion. He was also inducted into the Colorado High School Running Hall of Fame.
A 2026 Arizona State University graduate with a degree in Biomedical Sciences, Sullivan now trains between Tempe, Arizona, and Park City, Utah. He enjoys the variety of triathlon and the challenge of balancing three sports, racing 12-15 times and traveling to more than a dozen countries in a typical year.
