WHO IS RACING

Six U.S. elite triathletes are scheduled to race in Italy: Gwen Jorgensen, Summer Rappaport, Seth Rider, Chase McQueen, John Reed, and Darr Smith.

Jorgensen (Boulder, Colo.) led U.S. elite triathletes at the 2025 World Triathlon Championship Series Yokohama on May 17, placing fourth, her best WTCS finish since returning to the sport in 2023.

"Best performance in this comeback — really close to a medal. I really want that medal," Jorgensen said post-race in Yokohama. She returned to the sport of triathlon in 2023 after starting a family and pursuing a professional running career following her gold medal performance at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Rappaport (Thornton, Colo.), a Tokyo 2020 Olympian, makes her 2025 season debut in Alghero. A longtime member of the U.S. Elite Triathlon National Team, Rappaport closed her 2024 season by earning back-to-back top-five finishes at World Cup events. She swam and ran at NCAA Division I Villanova University and started competing in triathlon through USA Triathlon's Collegiate Recruitment Program.

Rider comes to Alghero following an eighth-place finish at IRONMAN 70.3 St. George and a fourth-place showing at IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside this spring. A Paris 2024 Olympian, Rider was a member of the U.S. Mixed Relay team that won silver in Paris last August. A lifelong triathlete, Rider started racing triathlon at 6-years-old and came up through USA Triathlon’s Youth and Junior elite triathlon circuit.

McQueen (Columbus, Ind.) led the U.S men at WTCS Yokohama, placing 13th for his best-ever WTCS finish. McQueen started his 2025 season by placing second at the 2025 Supertri E World Triathlon Championships London in April.

Reed (Virginia Beach, Va.) has finished 26th and 21st in the first two stops of the 2025 WTCS in Abu Dhabi and Yokohama. He also teamed up with Morgan Pearson, Taylor Spivey and Erika Acklerund to place second in the Mixed Relay in Abu Dhabi. Last season, Reed placed sixth at the World Triathlon U23 World Championships, the best result by a U.S. man at U23 World Championships since Tokyo 2020 Olympian Kevin McDowell's fourth-place finish in 2015.

Smith (Atlanta, Ga.) started his 2025 season by placing third at the 2025 Americas Triathlon Cup Miami in March, following that with a 24th-place finish at WTCS Yokohama.
