by USA Triathlon

HOMESTEAD, Fla. — U.S. Elite Triathlon National Team member and Paris 2024 Olympic Games qualifier Morgan Pearson (New Vernon, N.J.) won the men’s elite race on Friday, March 8 at the 2024 Americas Triathlon Championships Miami, hosted by CLASH Endurance at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

The 2024 Americas Triathlon Championships Miami welcomed the top Elite, U23, Para and Junior athletes from national federations of Americas Triathlon, a continental division of World Triathlon that includes federations in North, Central and South America. Five U.S. elite paratriathletes qualified for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, while U.S. Junior Reese Vannerson won the men’s Junior Americas Championship.

In the men’s Elite race, Pearson led a U.S. sweep on the podium where he was joined by Darr Smith (Atlanta, Ga.) and John Reed (Salt Lake City, Utah). Pearson completed the Olympic-distance course in a time of 1 hour, 43 minutes, 39 seconds, breaking away from his U.S. teammates to take the lead on the 10k run.

Pearson, who qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics at the 2023 World Triathlon Paris Test Event last summer, now turns his attention toward the World Triathlon Championship Series season, which next goes to Yokohama on May 11.

Reed was the top U23 men’s performer on Friday, and he’ll take home the Americas Triathlon U23 Championship. Sullivan Middaugh (Beaver Creek, Colo.), a member of USA Triathlon’s Project Podium, finished third among U23 competitors.

In the elite women’s race, U.S. Elite Triathlon National Team member Gina Sereno (Madison, Wis.) led the way in seventh place. Liberty Ricca (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was the top U.S. U23 women’s finisher, placing 11th.
