Champions Crowned at 2025 USA Triathlon Gravel National Championships in Lincoln, Nebraska

LINCOLN, Nebraska — Athletes traveled to Lincoln, Nebraska, on Aug. 24, for the 2025 USA Triathlon Gravel National Championship, hosted by Goodlife Adventures in partnership with Gravel Worlds, one of the country’s largest and longest-running gravel cycling events.
USA Triathlon Gravel Nationals was hosted at Branched Oak Lake State Park outside of Lincoln, where athletes enjoyed the endless miles of gravel roads.
Gravel Triathlon National Championships
Athletes racing in the Sprint Triathlon National Championship completed a 750-meter swim, 17-mile bike, and a 5-kilometer run, while athletes racing in the Intermediate Triathlon National Championship completed a 1500-meter swim, 28-mile bike, and a 10k run.
In the Sprint Distance Triathlon National Championship, Caroline Theil (Derby, Kan.) placed first overall among all competitors, women and men, clocking the day’s fastest time in 1 hour, 27 minutes, 48 seconds. Dylan Volk (Frisco, Texas) placed second among women in 1:35:12 and Kari Benkert (Lees Summit, Mo.) placed third in 1:39:11.
Grayson Masterson (Eudora, Kan.) won the men's overall Sprint Distance Triathlon National Championship in 1:31:28. Bill Bender (Wichita, Kan.) placed second in 1:35:03 and Tom Meersman (Geneva, Ill.) placed third in 1:35:48.
Jeremiah Bruce (Commerce City, Colo.) placed first in the Clydesdale category in a time of 1:49:42. Timothy Noerrlinger (Syracuse, Neb.) placed second in 1:52:34 and Ross Passmore (Blair, Neb.) placed third in 2:05:48.
Isabel Fairbanks (Lincoln, Neb.) placed first in the Athena category in a time of 2:08:46.
In the Intermediate Distance Triathlon National Championship, Kevin Denny (Lake Lotawana, Mo.) took home the overall title, winning with a time of 2:19:30. Kerry Werner (Vinton, Va.) placed second in 2:20:40 and John Matson (Elkhorn, Neb.) placed third in 2:27:21.
Kirsten Sass (McKenzie, Tenn.) won the women’s overall title in a time of 2:36:19 and Jenny Fletcher (Frisco, Texas) placed second in 2:43:33. Lindsay Long (Wilmington, Del.) placed third in 2:52:45.
Scott Cadwallader (Colorado Springs, Colo.) placed first overall in the Clydesdale category in 3:02:54.
Gravel Duathlon National Championships
Athletes competing in the Sprint Duathlon National Championship completed a 17-mile bike and 5k run, while athletes competing in the Intermediate Duathlon National Championship completed a 28-mile bike and 10k run.
Stephen Eles (Boulder, Colo.) placed first overall in the Sprint Duathlon National Championship in a time of 1:09:17. Sean Martin (Tipp City, Ohio) placed second in 1:10:41 and Steven Worth (Lake Forest, Ill.) placed third in a time of 1:11:59.
Monica Doval (Plantation, Fla.) placed first in the women’s race in a time of 1:24:16. Sue Pelican (Estero, Fla.) placed second in a time of 1:28:19 and Rebecca Bell (Eaton Rapids, Mich.) placed third in 1:44:58. Bell also won the Athena category, followed by Victoria Oman (Cudahy, Wis.) in 2:21:26.
In the Olympic Distance Duathlon National Championship, Toby Dogwiler (Springfield, Mo.) placed first in 2:04:22. He was followed in by Mike Suing (Gretna, Neb.) who placed second in 2:11:18. Matt Wegenka (Springfield, Mo.) placed third in a time of 2:12:54.
Christine Puetz (Mansfield, Mo.) placed first overall in the women’s race in a time of 3:01:32.
