Nominations for Second Annual USA Triathlon Foundation THE ALEXANDER Award Open Now
by USA Triathlon Foundation
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Nominations opened today, May 7, for THE ALEXANDER Award, which celebrates the most exceptional female collegiate triathlete who excels academically, athletically, and demonstrates leadership, service, and community impact
THE ALEXANDER, funded by the TriDave Legacy Trust, was founded by the award’s namesake, longtime and prolific triathlete Dave Alexander, who raced in over 500 multisport races including nearly 300 triathlons all over the world. After launching the USA Triathlon Kids Tri program in Phoenix on April 19, 2024, the TriDave Legacy Trust cumulatively gifted over $3,270,000 — and gave the largest gift in the history of the USA Triathlon—$2,350,000—to support women’s collegiate triathlon becoming an official NCAA Championship sport as well as supporting women’s collegiate NCAA triathlons in perpetuity.
THE ALEXANDER will honor an outstanding individual who excels not only on the triathlon racecourse but also demonstrates exemplary achievements in academics and community service. Annually, THE ALEXANDER Award will be presented at the USA Triathlon Foundation’s Celebration of Sport Gala. More information on the Celebration of Sport will be announced this summer. Because of the incredible generosity of The TriDave Legacy Trust, the recipient will receive the prestigious statue of the same name, and a $15,000 cash award to launch her toward her academic, athletic, and professional goals. The two runner-up’s will each receive a $1,500 cash award.
Nominations are open now until June 8, for THE ALEXANDER. To nominate an NCAA women’s collegiate triathlete, please click here for the nomination form.
Women’s collegiate triathlon is currently an NCAA Emerging Sport for Women, with more than 40 schools across the country offering the sport at the NCAA Division I, II and III levels. After hitting the 40-school mark, women’s collegiate triathlon has met the 10-year window to demonstrate sustainability and success at the NCAA varsity level. Women’s Triathlon now has a few more steps to take on its way to being fully managed by the NCAA as a championship event, including committee, council, divisional and budget approvals.
