USA Triathlon Launches Updated Race Director Certification Program

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — USA Triathlon has launched its new-and-improved Race Director Certification Program, a powerful new online resource designed to equip race organizers with knowledge, tools, and connections to produce exceptional, safe, and profitable multisport events. The updated Race Director Certification Program will raise standards, build community, and help race directors across the country deliver better events.
The program combines the industry’s best practices with hands-on experience to meet the needs of both new and veteran race directors.

An online course comprised of 10 interactive learning modules, USA Triathlon’s Race Director Certification Program is a robust introduction to race directing and event production that covers key topics such as the USA Triathlon sanctioning process, risk management and insurance, permitting and agency coordination, and self-officiating. It also includes detailed planning for swim, bike, and run logistics. Additionally, the course features a dedicated marketing module focused on social media strategies and best practices to help grow and promote your event effectively.
Race Director Certification Program Highlights #
- Online Course: Race directors can learn at their own pace through a comprehensive online curriculum that covers event operations, athlete experience, risk management, marketing, sponsorship, and more.
- Practical Resources: Gain access to templates, checklists, and planning tools that streamline race director operations and support profitable race production.
- Real-World Practicum: Apply knowledge by completing a practicum, which may be fulfilled in one of three ways:
- Attending a USA Triathlon Regional Race Director Networking Meeting
- Attending Endurance Exchange in January 2026 in Orlando, Florida
- Serving on the event staff of a sanctioned race in your region
