Endurance athlete and Age Group Team USA Triathlete, Eldar Spahic, is turning his lifelong experience in triathlon into a new book, while also giving back to the triathlon community in the process. His new book, titled "As You Are, So Once Was I: Lessons from Life, Death, and the Space in Between," was released on Amazon on March 24 with all proceeds benefitting the USA Triathlon Foundation through April 14.

Eldar has spent years in endurance sport and acute healthcare — environments where pressure is constant, and progress depends on adaptation. He has raced in ultradistance and multi-day endurance events, highlighted by a second-place finish at the Quintuple Ironman World Cup, a race that covers five times the distance of a traditional Ironman.

Triathlon’s demand for balance, pacing, and long-term thinking became a natural lens for understanding how people endure effort, setbacks, and change over time. Throughout the book, triathlon and endurance sport appear as settings where these reflections unfold.

The partnership with the Foundation reflects the book’s core theme: that endurance, whether in sport or life, rarely happens alone. Coaching, travel support, equipment, and other resources play a critical role in helping athletes sustain long-term participation.

To honor the sport that helped shape the book, Eldar has pledged to donate all proceeds he receives from sales between March 24 and April 14, 2026, to the USA Triathlon Foundation.

“Progress depends on having the structure and support to keep showing up, adjusting, and continuing through uncertainty,” Spahic said. “The Foundation directly supports athletes navigating financial and structural barriers, which aligns with the book’s focus on what allows people to remain engaged over time.”

By supporting the book during its launch period, readers will also help advance the USA Triathlon Foundation’s mission to provide access and opportunity in triathlon.

The book is now available to purchase on Amazon.
