Athletes compete at the World Triathlon Age Group World Championships in Hamburg, Germany
Team USA Age Group Athletes Win 20 Medals at Sprint & Relay World Championships In Hamburg

HAMBURG, Germany — U.S. age group athletes collected six world titles and 20 medals overall at the World Triathlon Sprint & Relay Championships Hamburg last week July 13-16 in Hamburg.
The Sprint World Championships featured a 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike and 5-kilometer run through the city streets of Hamburg, which welcomed large, enthusiastic crowds to cheer for the age group and elite athletes.
In all, more than 250 U.S. athletes represented Team USA, with athletes qualifying at USA Triathlon’s national championships in 2022.
Team USA’s individual world champions included June Black (F80-84, Austin, Texas); Robert Plant (M80-84, Woodside, Calif.) and Kenneth Fleischhacker (M85-89, Littleton, Colo.).
In addition, the U.S. won three mixed relay team gold medals in the age 15-19, 70-79 and 80-89 categories.
U.S. silver medalists included Ava Pfaff (F16-19, Lincoln University, Pa.); Steph Popelar (F55-59, Elizabeth, Colo.); Diane Ragalie (F70-74. Highland Park, Ill.); Kathy Calabretta (75-79, Ludington, Mich.); Garrett Mayeaux (M25-29, Frisco, Texas); Brek Minarik (M35-39, Hartland, Wis.) and Robert Skaggs (M55-59. Dunedin, Fla.).
U.S. bronze medalists included Allison LoPiccolo (F30-34, Pittsboro, N.C.); Carol Brown (F70-74, Seattle, Wash.); Jake Adler (M16-19. Jamestown, N.C.); David Morrow (M70-74, Tarpon Springs, Fla.) and Jack Welber (M85-89. Boulder, Colo.).
Pontevedra, Spain, will host World Triathlon Championship Finals this September, which includes the standard-distance Age-Group World Championships. Next year’s age group Sprint-Distance World Championships will also be in Spain, next year at the 2024 World Triathlon Championship Finals Malaga.

U.S. athletes can qualify for 2024 World Championships at next month’s USA Triathlon Nationals in Milwaukee. The event is USA Triathlon’s Olympic and Sprint Distance National Championships and serves as the qualifier for 2024 Worlds.
