USA Triathlon Foundation Donor Spotlight: Rick and Susan Hrabchak Support Project Podium
by USA Triathlon
Longtime triathletes and marathoners Rick and Susan Hrabchak have been athletes their entire lives.
Rick a prep school All-American swimmer, Susan a runner since high school who has raced more than 100 marathons since 1979. Both have raced many triathlons, from sprint distance to IRONMAN. Susan has summitted Mt. Kilimanjaro (19,341 ft), Mt. Elbrus (18,510 ft), Mt. Aconcagua (22,837 ft) and reached Mt. Everest Base Camp (17,598 ft).
Through these experiences, each recognize the transformational power of sport. As USA Triathlon Foundation major donors, Rick and Susan Hrabchak have committed to supporting the Foundation’s mission to transform lives through sport by providing opportunities to swim, bike and run.
“Sport develops skills — focus, work ethic, time management, resilience, fun, the mental aspect — it truly helps develop people into strong professionals,” said Rick, who is the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Investment Officer at Mutual of Omaha.
Sport has been instrumental to Rick and Susan’s lives – and together, they are leaders in their community in supporting youth and adult sports.
For years, Rick served as the Treasurer, Board of Directors and volunteer coach for the Princeton Little League, while Susan was the founder, Executive Director and coach of the Princeton Women’s Running Club and served as an assistant coach for the middle school cross country team at St. Margaret Mary School in Omaha, Nebraska.
The USA Triathlon Foundation reached out to Rick and Susan months ago to tell the couple about the great impact the Foundation has on the multisport community through its charitable giveback and grants. The Foundation’s three pillars — Encourage youth participation; Inspire adaptive athletes and Ignite Olympic and Paralympic dreams — resonated with the couple.
“We had been thinking about how to give back to something we both enjoy together and what we’re passion about,” Rick said. “The phone call came at the right time.”
As former student-athletes, Rick and Susan feel it is important to support the next generation of student-athletes chasing their dreams. They see the opportunity for U.S. elite athletes to excel at Paris 2024 and LA 2028 and have committed their donation to support USA Triathlon’s elite development squad, Project Podium, which features up-and-coming male elite triathletes who train and study at Arizona State University.
“The Foundation is working at the grassroots level to build up the next generation of the sport, which is just as important as the athletes that are on the cusp of making an Olympic team now. The Foundation has a critical role to assist in fulfilling that mission of growing the sport,” Rick said.
