Personal

Atlanta, Georgia is home for Darr Smith, and it’s where much of his triathlon journey began. He grew up in a competitive, sport-forward family and still trains close to home today. His dad coached him throughout his junior career and still joins in on rides, while his younger brother, also a former triathlete, now plays tennis professionally.

He has lived and trained in places like Phoenix, Park City, and Santa Barbara, experiences that shaped him both as an athlete and as a person. Collegiately, he competed in cross country and track at the University of Georgia before transferring to Arizona State University, where he graduated and became a member of Project Podium, an important step in his progression to the USA Triathlon National Team.

One of Darr’s favorite parts of triathlon is the tight-knit, international training community, and yes, the travel too, even if racing on the other side of the world isn’t always glamorous. When he’s not training, he’s perfecting his flat white, maximizing airline points, dominating Tiny Hoops basketball, or unwinding with Wii Sports golf. Darr also supports causes like Tim Tebow’s Night to Shine and enjoys helping build community through sport.
