2017: Announced his retirement from elite triathlon in August, accepting a job with Visa • Placed 25th at ITU World Triathlon Gold Cost on April 8 and 35th at ITU World Triathlon Yokohama on May 13  • Earned a career-best seventh-place WTS finish at ITU World Triathlon Abu Dhabi on March 7

2012: Ended his season with an eighth-place finish at the ITU Under-23 World Championships in Auckland, New Zealand • Earned the silver medal at the Buffalo ITU Pan American Cup in New York on Sept. 15, which also earned him the title of runner-up at the USA Triathlon Elite National Championship and winner of the USA Triathlon Under-23 National Championship • Made his ITU World Triathlon Series debut in San Diego on May 10, finishing 15th • Posted three top-10 finishes at ITU Continental Cup events: third at Ilheus-Bahia ITU Pan American Cup on April 7, eighth at the Salinas ITU Pan American Cup on March 3, and sixth at the Bridgetown ITU Sprint Pan American Cup on Feb. 12

2011:
Posted a fourth-place finish at the ITU Under-23 World Championships in Beijing • Made his ITU World Cup debut on Oct. 15, finishing 27th in the Tongyeong ITU World Cup, and then finishing 16th at the Guatape ITU World Cup on Nov. 6 • Finished sixth overall at the Buffalo ITU Pan American Cup on Sept. 23, earning the title of USA Triathlon Under-23 National Champion • Earned his first career ITU podium finish with a bronze medal at the Kelowna ITU Pan American Cup on Aug. 21 

2010 and earlier: Led the U.S. men at the 2010 FISU World University Championships, finishing fifth • Raced to back-to-back eighth-place finishes at 2010 ITU Pan American Cup events in San Francisco (July 10) and Coteau-du-Lac (June 26) • Finished sixth at the 2009 San Francisco ITU Pan American Cup on July 11 • Won a world title as the top finisher in the 2006 ITU Junior Aquathlon World Championships by more than 1 minute

Personal

Parents are Garrett and Karen Billington • Has one brother, Brian • Ran cross country at Wake Forest, regularly finishing as the top Deacon at many meets he competed in • Earned eight varsity letters in cross country and track at RAF Lakenheath High School • Trains with the Triathlon Squad • Competed in his first triathlon at age 8 • Favorite workouts are taper week training tune-ups because it "represents the culmination of a lot of hard work and it's always fun to be able to hold back and still go fast" • All-time favorite Olympic moment is Jason Lezak anchoring the U.S. 4x100 freestyle relay in 2008 • Biggest role model is Emmanuel Yeboah, an Ghanaian athlete who was born with an impaired right leg: "Growing up disabled in Ghana, he overcame convention and serious adversity to ride across Ghana in order to create scholarships and give wheelchairs to the disabled. He's still going strong and wants to build a school for the disabled by raising awareness during his ride across America."
