Each year, multisport athletes are honored for their successes over the past season. 2013 was a year that showcased the talent in the United States, including national and world championships.



In February of 2014, USA Triathlon recognized Kirsten Sass (McKenzie, Tenn.) and Dan Stubleski (Washington, Mich.) as Age-Group Triathletes of the Year. The award is presented by Garmin and selected annually by USA Triathlon's Age-Group Committee.

In February of 2014, young triathletes Tamara Gorman and Tony Smoragiewicz, both of Rapid City, S.D., were named the 2013 Junior Triathletes of the Year by USA Triathlon. It was the second year in a row that Gorman was given the honor.

Highlighted by her historic win at the 2013 Omega World Triathlon San Diego, Gwen Jorgensen (St. Paul, Minn.) headlined the list of 2013 Elite Triathletes of the Year, which were announced in February, 2014. Matt Chrabot (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Jarrod Shoemaker (Clermont, Fla.) also earned honors in the Olympic/ITU Athlete of the Year category.

For the first time in the history of the sport, in March of 2014, USA Triathlon awarded a pair of athletes as 2013 Off-Road Triathletes of the Year. Amateur athletes Matthew Balzer (Reno, Nev.) and Hannah Rae Finchamp (Altadena, Calif.) were given the special honor while Josiah Middaugh (Boulder, Colo.) and Emma Garrard (Park City, Utah) were selected as Elite Off-Road Triathletes of the Year.
