MARBELLA, Spain — U.S. triathletes produced standout results at the 2025 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Marbella, Spain, highlighted by elite women’s silver medalist Taylor Knibb (Boulder, Colo.), U.S. age-group world champions, and top-U.S. elite men’s performance from Seth Rider (Germantown, Tenn.).

A three-time IRONMAN 70.3 world champion, Knibb turned in a commanding performance in Marbella, finishing second overall in the professional women’s field, just weeks after competing at the 2025 IRONMAN World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. She recorded a time of 4 hours, 17 minutes, 55 seconds, powered by the fastest bike split in the race (2:28:36) and a strong run came in 1:20:21. Knibb exited the water in second, took the lead on the bike, but was bested on the run by Great Britain’s Lucy Charles-Barclay, who clocked 4:14:54 for the world title.

On the men’s side, Belgium’s Jelle Geens defended his world title in a dramatic sprint finish, outsprinting Norway’s Kristian Blummenfelt by just 3 seconds over a time of 3:42:52.

For Team USA, Paris 2024 Olympian Seth Rider led the U.S. by placing 14th overall with a time of 3:52:38.

U.S. age-group athletes shone in Marbella, with three U.S. triathletes taking world titles in their respective divisions:

  • Sharon Schmidt-Mongrain (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) — Women 50-54 — 5:20:34
  • Judy McNary (Louisville, Colo.) — Women 65-69 — 6:11:37
  • Eben Jones (Boulder, Colo.) — Men 65-69 — 5:09:20

Congratulations to all athletes who competed!
